Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is India’s fourth-largest city and was the first major settlement of the East India Company in 1639. The Government Museum offers a fascinating insight into the city's rich history. Strolling through its bustling streets, exploring vibrant local markets, and admiring the exquisite temples provide a delightful way to experience the city's charm.

Leaving behind the bustling city of Chennai, journey along the scenic East Coast Road to the tranquil beaches of Mamallapuram, a charming fishing village. This two-hour drive brings you to a destination rich in history and coastal beauty. Explore the iconic Shore Temple, admire the intricate mandapams (carved temple pillars), or observe skilled stone carvers at work. You can also watch the vibrant fishing fleet in action or simply relax at a beachside restaurant, soaking in the laid-back atmosphere of this coastal gem.

Today, you will continue your journey to Puducherry, with a brief stop at Auroville, an inspiring global community dedicated to unity and sustainable living. Puducherry’s distinct French charm is evident in its colonial architecture, Hotel de Ville, French Consulate, and police officers donning traditional red kepis and belts. Stroll through the serene Sri Aurobindo Ashram, visit local temples, and explore the picturesque old French quarter, where cobbled streets and pastel-hued buildings create a romantic and nostalgic ambiance.

This afternoon, embark on a comfortable six-hour train journey to Madurai in air-conditioned seating. Enjoy the scenic countryside as you travel through Tamil Nadu. Upon arrival, check into your hotel for an overnight stay, preparing for the adventures ahead in this historic city.

This morning, embark on a guided tour of Madurai, beginning with the magnificent 16th-century Meenakshi Temple, renowned for its nine towering gopurams (monumental gateways). Within the temple complex, explore the Thousand Pillared Hall, the Golden Lotus Tank, and the Nandi Pavilion, while marveling at the 12 towering structures that rise above the vibrant throngs of pilgrims.

A short distance away, visit the Thirumalai Nayaka Palace, an architectural masterpiece blending Hindu and Saracen styles. Recent restorations have brought its intricate carvings and stonework back to life with vivid original colors, creating a striking visual experience.

This afternoon, enjoy free time to explore Madurai at your own pace. You may choose to visit the Gandhi Museum, immerse yourself in the lively bazaars filled with vibrant textiles, silver, and handicrafts, or even have tailor-made outfits created. Take in the city's rich aromas and colors, experiencing the unique energy of this bustling temple town.

Today, embark on a scenic drive to Thekkady, passing through lush rubber and pineapple plantations that showcase the region’s rich agricultural landscape. Thekkady serves as the gateway to Periyar National Park (Periyar Tiger Reserve), a breathtaking wildlife sanctuary nestled in the Western Ghats. Perched at a high altitude, this reserve is home to diverse flora and fauna, offering a glimpse into the untamed beauty of southern India.

After breakfast, enjoy a guided visit to a nearby spice garden, where you’ll discover the rich aromas and medicinal properties of Kerala’s famous spices. Then, journey back toward the coast for a two-night homestay experience in a local village. Staying with welcoming Kerala families, you'll gain insight into their customs and traditions, with your tour leader providing a cultural briefing. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in authentic local life, engage with your hosts, and savor home-cooked delicacies, perhaps even a flavorful spicy coconut curry—a true taste of Kerala’s renowned cuisine.

Today, you will travel to Munnar, a former British hill station nestled in a stunning valley at 1,525 meters (4,575 feet) above sea level. As you ascend, you'll notice a refreshing drop in temperature, so be sure to have appropriate clothing for the cool mountain air.

Upon arrival, visit a lush tea plantation, where you can soak in the breathtaking green landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. If schedules permit, you’ll also explore the Tea Museum, which offers fascinating insights into the history and craftsmanship behind Munnar’s world-renowned tea industry.

This morning, set out on a sightseeing tour of Munnar, beginning with a visit to a tea plantation, where you can immerse yourself in the lush, green surroundings. If schedules allow, explore the Tea Museum, which provides a fascinating glimpse into the history and process of tea production in the region.

Next, travel to Mattupetty Dam, located 13 kilometers from Munnar at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level. This scenic town is known for its Indo-Swiss livestock project, which has played a vital role in dairy farming and cattle breeding. Enjoy the stunning landscapes and serene waters that make this a popular spot for visitors.

Travel to Kochi and discover the key attractions of Fort Cochin. Stroll through the spice bazaars and antique shops, and immerse yourself in a captivating Kathakali dance performance.

This morning, visit the harbor to watch local fishermen skilfully operate the ancient Chinese Fishing Nets. Explore the Dutch Palace and uncover the rich influences of the Dutch, Portuguese, British, Arab, and Chinese. Stroll through Jew Town and visit the historic Jewish Synagogue, the oldest in India. Later, embark on a private cruise around Kochi Harbour, taking in breathtaking sunsets and keeping an eye out for dolphins in the waters. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Journey to the serene backwaters of Kerala and spend the night aboard a traditional houseboat. Stroll through nearby villages, immersing yourself in local culture, and unwind with a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage.

Embark on a morning drive to Kovalam, passing through Kerala’s capital, Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), on a journey of approximately four hours. Once a tranquil coastal village known for its fresh fish and coconut exports, Kovalam was discovered around 30 years ago and has since evolved into one of India’s most renowned beach destinations.
